First frost showed up on the ridge behind the lodge this week — just a thin white line along the highest ground, gone by mid-morning, but a clear sign the season is turning. The birch along the road is going gold early this year.
This is a good stretch for a quieter kind of visit: cooler air, fewer midges, and some of the best light of the year for photographs, especially in the last hour before sunset.
